Be Your Own Advocate
In so many situations, you will have to be your own advocate. The first job of being your own advocate is to hopefully pass off that job to someone else that you can trust.
Job #1, Being your Own Advocate: Make someone else be your Advocate.
There may need to be an honest sit down discussion with your family, spouse, loved-one, partner, special person that makes them aware of certain elements of your recovery. You may work out some key phrases like:
"My brain gets tired quickly, I cannot stay out as long as we used to.If we go out, and I do WANT to go with you, we just might have to leave early. If I come up to you while we are at an event or outing, and I say “I need to go now”, please understand that I am trying to avoid being noticed, but please, as quickly as possible wrap up what you are doing, and get me home.I may say, I am going to sit in the car, or something like that. This means that you don’t have to follow me, just know that I am taking time to rest.If people ask where I am, just brush it off, please.
